Compact Produced Water Treatment Technology for Onshore Applications
National Oilwell Varco's Mission Products Group
As water production from mature assets continues to rise, there is a growing need for innovation in water handling methods in order to keep these fields producing economically. Traditional water handling facilities with atmospheric tanks and flotation cells are under increased scrutiny in the population dense LA basin due to space limitations, and the potential for VOC, H2S, CO2, and odor emissions as well as leakage. This presentation will discuss a recent development offering a viable alternative for low pressure, high water cut onshore production which borrows technology from the space and cost-conscious offshore sector. The presentation will also include a discussion of a study of oil droplet coalescence which was conducted while developing this technology. This latter work was presented and well received at the 2014 Produced Water Society Conference in Houston.
Mark Wolf is the Product Line Manager for Process Technology with National Oilwell Varco’s Mission Products Group. He has a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University and has worked in the Oil & Gas Production Industry for 28 years including 15 years in the Southern California Region. Mr. Wolf has spent most of his career working on process facilities, with a particular focus on produced water treatment. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Produced Water Society and presents regularly at the Annual PWS Seminar, at SPE workshops, and other industry functions that focus on Produced Water Treatment, Filtration, and Separation Technology.
